5
Entrepreneurship is changing our world
  • Let’s take a brief look at how entrepreneurial companies have changed the world we live in
6
Entrepreneurial technology companies are changing our world
  • A large portion of the growth that the US economy has experienced over the past 30 years can be attributed to entrepreneurial ventures
  • Remember 20 years ago when Apple referred to a fruit, not a large computer company
  • Remember 5 years ago when
was a river in South America, not a Web site
  • And, remember 5 years ago when
    was something that cowboys yelled
  • The world is truly a different place as a result of these companies
7
Entrepreneurial media companies have changed our world too
  • However, it is not just technology that has changed.  Media has also changed our world.
  • Twenty years ago, who would have thought that we’d be watching news, sports, music videos and the weather 24 hours a day?
8
We’ve even changed our dining expectations
  • We used to go out to dinner seeking a good meal and good service
  • Today, a whole new set of expectations are being met by “Eatertainment” companies that provide good food and good service in an entertaining environment
9
Participants in entrepreneurship education can realize their dreams
  • Bjorn Nabozney wrote the business plan for Big Sky Brewery and Dallas Neil wrote the business plan for Kinetic Sports Interactive while enrolled in University of Montana Entrepreneurship courses
  • Both businesses are currently operating and are successful

10
But, can you teach entrepreneurship?
  • Many of you might be asking the question above
  • The answer to that question is Yes and No
    • Yes, we can help you develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities, to write a successful business plan, to determine the appropriate type of financing, and to effectively manage your new venture
    • No, we cannot help you develop the internal drive and motivation needed to successfully get a new venture up and running.  That part is up to you.

About the developer of this course
  • Unlike many other sources of training for entrepreneurs offered on the Web, this course has been developed an individual who has been trained by some of the top academicians in the field and who continues to be actively involved in new business ventures
  • Before you proceed to the second module, we thought it would be important to know a little about his background…
