Government Support for Small Businesses
The government provides many services that range from financial assistance to generating a marketing plan. RMB has selected the following sites based on their ability to contribute to your success.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
Database for researching all federal government assistance programs offered to state and local governments. A link to the Top 10% Program List describes various business development resources available.

Chambers of Commerce Directory
Search engine for tracking down chambers of commerce by state or organization. Offers links to state boards of tourism and foreign chambers of commerce.

Department of Commerce
The Department of Commerce promotes job creation, economic growth, sustainable development and improved living standards for all Americans by working in partnership with business, universities, communities and workers.

Department of Labor
The U.S. Department of Labor is charged with preparing the American workforce for new and better jobs, and ensuring the adequacy of America's workplaces.

Marketing to the Federal Government
Via the General Services Administration (GSA), which buys $10 billion worth of goods for the government.

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
The U.S. EEOC coordinates all federal equal employment opportunity regulations, practices, and policies. The commission interprets employment discrimination laws, monitors the federal sector employment discrimination program, provides funding and support to state and local Fair Employment Practices Agencies (FEPAs), and sponsors outreach and technical assistance programs.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Information about the EPA and its regulations.

The Federal Marketplace
For-profit organization that helps businesses sell products and services to the federal government.

Federal Trade Commission
Information about the FTC, laws, regulations and links.

FedWorld Information Network
Obtain government publications and other information.

Government Printing Office (GPO)
The most extensive database of government documents. GPO is the superintendent of government documents.

GovCon
Free access to Commerce Business Daily and information about rules and regulations. Requires free registration.

Onvia
Onvia provides businesses with bid notices, quotes and business opportunities with local, municipal, state and federal agencies.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
States must set job safety and health standards that are "at least as effective as" comparable federal standards. (Most states adopt standards identical to federal ones.) States have the option to promulgate standards covering hazards not addressed by federal standards.

Security & Exchange Commission's EDGAR Database
Search all documents filed by public companies. Research specific industries and small businesses.

Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship
Homepage of the United States Senate's Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship. Created to promote and protect small businesses in the United States.

Small Business Administration (SBA)

STAT-USA
STAT-USA, an agency in the Economics and Statistics Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, delivers vital economic, business and international trade information produced by the U.S. Government so you can make an important decision that may affect your business, your career, your community, or your personal finances.

U.S. Business Advisors
This SBA-sponsored site is designed to advise and assist businesses with financing, taxes, workplace issues, legal issues, international trade and overall business development.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Homepage of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers links to government statistics for businesses, publications, government regulations, political advocacy, and support services for U.S. businesses.

U.S. Census Bureau
Census information that may be useful in developing demographic information for your business plan.

The World Bank
The World Bank Group is one of the world's largest sources of development assistance. In Fiscal Year 2001, the institution provided more than US$17 billion in loans to its client countries. It works in more than 100 developing economies with the primary focus of helping the poorest people and the poorest countries.
